Re: Mobile Recording Project

Well, it was neither notching nor re-amping that solved the ringing snare problem. I used PSP's Pro G gate with fast open and shut times and it let through the snap of the snare and cut off the tail which had all of the ring. It has now transformed the sound of the snare from being very sharp and pi...

Re: Mobile Recording Project

Last night I removed the bleed from the overhead mics by using Fab Filter Pro MB. I soloed the overheads and added the Pro MB plug-in and located the frequency range of the snare bleed. Then I applied a super-fast attack and release as well as a lot of gain reduction and a reasonably wide Q value. N...

Re: Mobile Recording Project

Nice, what a great song. It's really coming together. I noticed the drums are a bit muffled. Possibly just my computer monitors playing tricks on me, but It's probably just that you're in the middle of recording and this is a preliminary mix. G'day Marty The song is great - these are 16-yr old scho...

Re: Mobile Recording Project

The track seems to be coming along. I would suggest less delay effect on the vocals. I would automate the delay to only come in on certain words and mostly at the end of a vocal line. The delay forces the listener to concentrate solely on the delay taking away from the vocal performance and lyrics....

Re: Rock song

This is a really catchy song and really well recorded. Nice job. Can I ask where you recorded the vocals and what microphone you used to record them.

Re: Mobile Recording Project

Here is a mix that I did Sunday morning. I haven't done any editing to tighten up the timing but I have just applied a bit of basic subtractive EQ and compression to each of the tracks. http://soundcloud.com/g-master-g-1/lost-rev-2-20141130/s-R3PPR The intention was to give the kids something quick ...

Re: Scarlett 18i8 Auria setup

Another one that occurred to me. Are you using the iPad settings for mix control that you download from the focusrite web-site? I use these just to make sure I am doing what Focusrite say is the best way for my scarlett to work with the iPad. However, the default sample rate is 48kHz which means tha...

Re: Mobile Recording Project

Well, The recording session on Saturday was a resounding success. In summary: Everything was recorded in the way that I had pre-planned - at no stage did I come across a problem that I hadn't anticipated which required some sort of work-around to be developed on the spot. The smooth running of the s...

Re: Mobile Recording Project

G'day Joe I would welcome some collaboration regarding recording, mixing, writing, performing. I forced myself into the scene via the Metro Big Band in which I play and it has done wonders for my playing. Earlier this year I read Pete Townsend's biography which for some reason inspired an outpouring...

Re: Scarlett 18i8 Auria setup

1. Check that you have sound coming from your monitor speakers (if you have some). By doing this you can confirm that it is just a Mix Control issue and not something to do with the iPad itself. 2. In Mix Control you have 3 routing options: Monitor Output 1 & 2 Headphone L & R SPDIF Output 1...

Re: Mobile Recording Project

G'day Joepno You have some very nice kit and you raise a very interesting point regarding the planning. One thing that I did not mention in my posts is the amount of mental gymnastics to which I subjected my brain trying to figure out exactly how this recording session could be conducted given that ...

Re: Best interface to record a drum kit...?

Hello there The VSL looks like a great piece of kit. I currently have a Focusrite 18i6 and a Presonus Digimax D8. I connect the D8 to the 18i6 via light pipe and I get the following inputs: 8 preamps via the D8 2 preamps via the 18i6 6 line level inputs via the 18i6 2 S/PDF inputs via the 18i6 It wo...
