Which Video format on Auria?
Which Video format on Auria?
Hi everyone, I tried to import a video .mov file via dropbox, and I failed as it was too big (I think, it was 650 mega). I am trying with other formats but it seems Auria can't detect other than .mov files... Is this true?? This could be a big limit for this feature.
Thanks for the answer.

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
Auria doesn't load the videos - it's iOS that does (your iPad), so whatever formats iOS supports, Auria supports. This varies with new iOS releases, but currently, it's:
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo
File types: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo
File types: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second
Audio: ulaw, PCM stereo
File type: .avi

Yeah! It's too bad Apple doesn't support European (and other countries) video standards as well which are 25 (or 50) frames per second.
30 frames per second is US and Japanese video standards.
That's the reason why I bought 16 GB Ipad instead of 64.

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
I was wondering if there are any updates on what formats/resolutions are now acceptable in Auria.
Here's the current list from Apple as of Jan 2014:
All mobile devices which iTunes can sync video to can play the following video formats:
H.264
-File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
-Video: Up to 768 kbits/sec, 320 x 240, 30 frames per second (fps), Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3.
-Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, and stereo audio.
MPEG-4
-File formats: .m4v, .mp4, and .mov
-Video: Up to 2.5 Mbits/sec, 480 x 480, 30 fps, Simple Profile.
-Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 kbits/sec, 48 Khz, stereo audio.
Other formats may be supported by newer devices.
What is the max file size that is loadable into Auria? I know that Auria allows portions of videos to be loaded, which is awesome.
Also:
Anyone have ideas regarding the easiest way to transfer video into an iPad. (iTunes & iFunbox) Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Marty

Auria can load videos up to the max audio region size (13 hours).
As far as formats, Auria loads whatever Apple supports, so it Apple adds a new format, Auria should be able to play it.

Holy catz, 13 hours?
Nice. Good thing I opted for the 128Gb Air. (Try backin' that up...)

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
I converted .mov to mp4 using app and it imported perfectly. My original .mov file was 48 meg and mp4 compressed to 8 meg

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
Looking at the spec requirements listed above I take it Auria is not going to accept MP4 or MOV files that are recorded at 60fps?
Whatever is but might not be is dependent on what is and cannot not be.
Re: Which Video format on Auria?
Auria accepts all video formats that Apple supports on an iPad (the video import functions are standard iOS functions). So if Apple supports it, it'll work in Auria.

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
Hmm ok well my problem must be something else then. I recorded a video on my GoPro (at 720p 60fps) and dumped an MP4 file and a MOV version of the same video in Dropbox, but when I went add the files to Auria from my Dropbox folder Auria couldn't see them. It's as if the files weren't even there.

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
It's quite possible that the GoPro generates MP4 and MOV files that iOS doesn't support. Keep in mind that MP4 and MOV file types are only containers, and it's important to know which codec is used within the file. iOS only supports a few of the common codecs.

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
Thanks for the prompt replies Rim.
Interesting stuff. What's intriguing then is that my iPad 4 plays said files flawlessly. In fact I ended up editing the files in the iMovie iPad app instead and syncing an audio track that I had made in Auria. I was planning to do this in Auria. It was dead easy too as somehow it knew what I was trying to do and automatically synced the audio and video on its own.
This is why I thought the 60fps might be what all the trouble is. Auria might only work with 30fps video only? But like you said these file formats are only containers. In saying that though I'm still curious as to why Auria couldn't even see the files when browsing for them, and again that iOS 7 can play them and edit them by default.

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
If that's the case, I suspect it might be an issue with importing the movie using Dropbox. iOS apps (Auria included) don't play video on their own, they simply ask iOS to do it for them, so whatever works on one app will work for everything. Have you tried to manually copy the files into Auria's Documents folder using a program like iFunBox? This would show if it's a Dropbox issue.

Re: Which Video format on Auria?
Yep you were right Rim, it's a dropbox issue. I used iFunBox and it Auria can now see the files. I hope one day Auria will just let you add files from the Camera Roll. Having to copy the files from your iPad just to put them back on your iPad is bothersome.

Would love to access videos straight from the camera roll, that would be awesome. Maybe in some future update we will.jadmorffier wrote:Yep you were right Rim, it's a dropbox issue.
