Fxpansion BusCompressor Sidechain-Problem

Post by pipo79 » Fri Sep 06, 2013 12:53 pm

Hello everbody,
is there a way to use the DCam Bus Compressor triggered by a Sidechain-Input-Signal but WITHOUT that Input-Signal to be heard ? E.G. : KickDrum on Track 1 is the "Sidechain-Input-Source" for some Pad-Sound on Track 2 - now when I pull the Fader from Track 1 down the signal is not triggering the compressor anymore - I also tried to route Track 1 to a Sugroup or an AuxBus but there seems no way to get that signal routed towards the compressor without hearing it - I really wonder why there is no possibility to do so - for that was my only intension giving about 15€ to fxpansion - please help !!!

kind regards,
pipo

Workaround : mixdown with splitted stereotrack from subgroup where "triggersignal" is a hard pan to the left & the "targetsignal" panned to the right .... Well not really satisfiying but still a way ...

You should try route sidechain input source track to some subroup. Then close fader in subgroup. If external sidechain works well in your app, then you are in luck. I have purchased DCAM BusComp particulary for external sidechaining and this function not working at all in my app. With external sidechain in ON position and selected source track in upper right corner, compressed signal is still keyed by itself.

Thanks, I've e-mailed FXpansion about this. I'll let you know when I hear back from them.

By the way - sidechain works as it should with volcano2 - you can turn down the source input track and it still works on the target track - so there IS a problem with that DCAM Bus Compressor - hopefully this can be fixed via an update because it is already purchased as an IAP .....

It's up to each plug-in developer to implement this, so I'll check with them to see if they've implemented side chain in those plug-ins.

Thanks,
Rim

is it possible that a bus compressor isn't designed to take the sidechain signal from the same fader point as a channel comp? (pre-fader/post-fader)

Because we can set threshold in compressor, it is obvious that source signal to external sidechaining SHOULD be taken from pre fader.

Hello Rim - for sure everything is running crazy because of IAA now, but did Angus from FXspansion already find a way to fix the bug in the DCAM buscomp ?

They're scrambling to get the new BFD version out, so they haven't had a lot of time, but I'll check back in a few weeks.
