Best interface to record a drum kit...?

Post by C-minus » Sat Nov 15, 2014 9:28 pm

Hi all, there's a lot of stuff out there, pretty overwhelming, and just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I need 8 XLR channels in, 8 channels out into auria. The focusrite Scarlett stuff looks promising, but I'm not fooling with adat, lightpipe-ing from other devices, etc...Just one box, 8 in 8 out, into an iPad Air 1. Not worried about whether it charges the iPad, or you have to plug into the wall, that's fine, just need 8 in/out....any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Yep have a presonus vst1818 and it's pretty solid with nice preamps for this sort of thing
I will say if you get a peak in recording with it you get a crackle though ,just make sure your levels are ok and you'll be fine
But they are great units 8)

Hello there

The VSL looks like a great piece of kit. I currently have a Focusrite 18i6 and a Presonus Digimax D8.

I connect the D8 to the 18i6 via light pipe and I get the following inputs:

8 preamps via the D8
2 preamps via the 18i6
6 line level inputs via the 18i6
2 S/PDF inputs via the 18i6

It works very well and you can follow the account of my first mobile recording in the diary that I am keeping in the general forum.
