The new iPad Pro 12.5 inch screen with 512gig New Problems App Crashes and Lag

Post by Steve White » Wed Jun 28, 2017 10:25 am

Hi everyone

Just a quick check on this? I plan on getting the new iPad Pro and I'm wondering if Auria will run ok on it?

Ok, I just backed up my old Pro and then restored using iTunes on my laptop but when I open Auria it tells me I need to upgrade to Auria Pro to run my project. I hope there is an easy way to fix this?
Thank you

Steve

Steve,
In Auria go into the Auria Store (Menu> Auria Store) and tap on 'Restore Purchases' in the upper right. This should get you back to Auria Pro and restore any other plugins or purchases you made.

Ok, have some problems but I don't know where to start? It's not just an Auria problem. I get lag when I play any virtual instrument in a recording app such as Auria, Cubasis 2 and Garageband. I would appreciate it if someone could give me a starting point to troubleshoot this?

Here's a weird one. I opened SampleTank in Auria with just one track and my cpu read 33%. That can't be right? When I played at first it was ok but then started lagging and producing strange sounds. I don't have a clue on this? Should I maybe take it back? Does it sound like an app problem or a bad iPad issue?

I tried them all and they all lagged so I went on Apple Chat Support and they told me to do a restore which I'm in the process of doing right now. I'm starting to think this one will need to be replaced. When I went to do a restore, iCloud was not showing in my settings so I had to erase it and start over. Will post back if I get any good results.

Thank you

Don't remember the latency settings but I think they were on default whatever that is. :)

Here's my update so far. I chatted with Apple Tech Support and they suggested a restore so I did that. Still have lag. Emailed SampleTank Tech Support and they told me to reset the latency in Auria. What? I've never heard of that. So if someone could tell me how to do that, I'll try that next.

When you're playing an iOS instrument in real time (live), latency is the thing that creates lag. The simple way to look at latency is: it's the amount of time you're giving iOS to do its thing after you press a key on the keyboard. So if your latency is set to 20 milliseconds, there will be a lag of 20 ms every time you press a key before you hear any sound. The lower the latency, the less lag. But of course, there's always a cost and the lower the latency, the higher the CPU usage. That's why audio apps try to strike a balance. So I suggest lowering the latency and see if your audio apps can still keep up.

In Auria, the latency is called "Buffer Size". That's just another way of looking at the same thing. If your sampling rate is 44100 (usually it is), then 256 sample buffer size is about 6 milliseconds of latency, 512 is about 11ms, etc. You can change the buffer size in the main settings page in Auria.
