Best app for creating ambience or pad sounds?
Best app for creating ambience or pad sounds?
I am looking to create some pads of ambience sounds. Which is the best app to do that? I was looking at Zeeon, is that a good one?

There are so many synths good for pads. I’d check out YouTube videos of LayR, Zeeon, Sunrizer, Synthmaster One (or SynthMaster Player if you don’t like to make patches), Volt, Factory, Kauldron, Kaspar...and there are lots more that sound great.

Sunrizer and Dreamfoot custom worship bank

Thanks for the help. I got zeeon and Kauldron to start out with. Layr looked good but no New Years sale. I am sure I will add more to the list as I use them more.

I just added KASPAR into my box of goodies. I found some free patches for it. I also got Magellan while I was at it. Thanks for your help.

How is layr? It looks like it could be a beast of an app. I might get that one if I get some good comments on it.

Check out this demo of some sounds from one of the LayR banks:

For me, LayR is best-in-class type synth. Despite what folks often say, it is not an inherently processor-intensive synth -- but it lets you create patches with lots and lots of oscillators. If you have a lot of layers (oscillators and filters) then those patches may use a lot of CPU -- but those patches are often the equivalent of running many poly synths at once.
It does have a learning curve if one is going to program one's own sounds. The learning curve is not steep if one understands how subtractive synths work and one is willing to spend 30-60 minutes reading through the well-written manual.

I added layr to my arsenal. Any ideas on Animoog or mini Moog model d? They look like they might have some interesting things about them too.

Re: Best app for creating ambience or pad sounds?
They are both great and very different. Mood Model D is a high-quality implementation of the classic minimoog. A very good traditional subtractive synth. Animoog is essentially a wavetable synth and has a very cool keyboard that lets you map a controller to vertical position on the keys -- somewhat like an mpe keyboard.

Cool, thank you. I am going to add them to my catalog. If you have any others just let me know.

How are the expansion packs for the Animoog and Minimoog? Are they worth getting?
