Flanger on the whole mix.
Flanger on the whole mix.
I've heard that some uses flanger on the whole mix, I guess it's to recreate the sound of tape. Is this common, and what kind of settings is best?
Re: Flanger on the whole mix.
Still wondering.

Personally can't recall ever hearing that - do you have examples?
It's become a popular feature for mastering programs to include tape emulation, saturation, wow and flutter etc, but that's not flanging....

I heard it in a mixing course but I can’t remember which one, maybe on one of those on Lynda.
Re: Flanger on the whole mix.
It's sometimes used here and there on a subgroup, eg the drums on some Small Faces recordings, notably Itchykoo Park, and obscurely Hard When You’re So Far Away by Ian Lloyd and Stories produced by Eddie Kramer. It's not a thing I've ever noticed on a whole mix, it would have to be crazy subtle or would sound nuts.
